Fresh flowers can make all the difference to a room. They bring life, colour and fragrance into your home, and some studies have shown they even have the power to reduce blood pressure, pain and anxiety in those around them. Sending a joy-filled bouquet to a loved one on a monthly basis is a thoughtful way to show your heart-felt appreciation for everything they do - and a flower subscription takes care of that for you.

More and more businesses are offering convenient fresh flower deliveries as monthly subscriptions. Some champion seasonal British flowers and sustainable practices by sourcing stems ethically or locally and sending them in recyclable packaging. (Read our advice on how to buy sustainable cut flowers and why roses are not the best to buy on Valentine's Day.)
Whether you want to treat a loved one or fill your home with a regular supply of fresh blooms, simply choose a style and subscription that suits your budget, opting for flowers you can send through the letterbox or pre-arranged displays.
Most subscriptions are paid on monthly basis that can be cancelled at any time. Others are set up on a three-, six- or 12-month basis and ask for the full amount upfront. This can be useful if the delivery is a gift and you don’t want to have to remember to cancel further down the line.

Best flower subscription services in the UK - reviewed
Arena Flowers
Best budget-friendly option
Price: From £25 | Rate: Weekly, fortnightly or monthly | Subscription Length: ongoing
Pros: easy to use, attractive recyclable packaging, pet-friendly subscription available, pay per delivery
Cons: recycling options could be clearer
Arena sells a large selection of flowers, gifts and subscriptions, as well as potted plants. The hand-tied bouquet we tried came pre-arranged in a large blue box with hand holes, making it easy to carry upright. We were pleasantly surprised by the generous number of blooms, as well as the pretty selection of colourful flowers. They all looked great straight away, other than a few marks on some of the darker roses, which are often the first to wilt.
Arena stops the stems drying out by packing them with compostable cellophane, tied with a bamboo-linen ribbon, all secured in a recycled and recyclable cardboard box, so it’s clear Arena has thought about sustainability here, although they could make the recycling options clearer on the packaging to avoid people tossing it in landfill. Opt for a letterbox delivery to reduce your impact further.
Inside, you get a greetings card and two compostable food sachets, and we were glad to see there were no thorns on any of the roses. Our arrangement lasted 8-10 days. Reviewed by Alice Tuffery

Bloom & Wild
Popular pick
Price: From £20 | Rate: Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6, 12 months or ongoing
Pros: easy to use, lots of choice, lasted well, letterbox deliveries, B-corp certified, carbon neutral
Cons: have to assemble letterbox deliveries yourself
Bloom & Wild is one of the biggest names in flower subscriptions, loved for its huge selection of beautiful arrangements and sleek and recyclable packaging. Its stylish letterbox-friendly flowers are great for anyone out of the house on delivery day.
You can choose which bouquet you receive next and select your preferred delivery date, and add a different gift card with each bouquet. And there’s plenty in the box, including two food pouches, a flower info pack and an arrangement guide.
We were pleased with the selection of blooms in the two bouquets we received, and they lasted really well – over three weeks in some cases. Reviewed by Alice Tuffery

Bunches
Best price range
Price: From £24.50 | Rate: Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6 or 12 months
Pros: plenty of choice when ordering, healthy blooms, pay monthly
Cons: rather ungainly and plain packaging, subscription not pet-friendly
One of the biggest plus points of Bunches is the amount of choice. Subscriptions come in four size options, including a letterbox-friendly version, and many one-off deliveries are available in various sizes as hand-tied bouquets or letterbox flowers.
Bunches lists the number of each exact flower included, so you know what you’re getting. There’s also the option to buy extra gifts like chocolate and greetings cards, as well as plants and hampers.
Although the packaging was a little tricky to wrangle, we liked the selection of colourful blooms, which looked fantastic straight out of the box. Reviewed by Alice Tuffery

Burnt Fen Flowers
Best for seasonal blooms
Price: £40 per delivery | Rate: every 7, 14 or 28 days, on a Friday
Pros: Seasonal, British-grown flowers, grown with no pesticides or chemicals, pay per delivery
Cons: Subscription set up could be a little clearer
Many British cut flower growers do not offer nationwide subscription services as they prefer to deliver (or arrange collection) locally. Read more about buying sustainable cut flowers. However Burnt Fen Flowers in Norfolk does offer a subscription service for its seasonal, British cut flowers that are grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals.
The plain, recycled cardboard box that arrived towards the end of May opened to reveal a riotous jumble of late spring/early summer flowers. The 21 hand-picked stems were vastly different from many traditional florist cut flowers and included irises, cornflowers, antirrhinums, anemones, ranunculus, Icelandic poppies, aquilegias and cornflowers in a riotous mix of colours from acid orange to pale yellow, white, magenta, baby pink and the darkest blue: it was like a colourful cottage garden had been transported to my living room. Some of the flowers were in bud when they arrived, so I had the pleasure of seeing them unfold over the days that followed. The bunch lasted for well over a week before I had to thin it out a little, and then went on for several more days.
As the flowers are British grown without chemicals, and are sought-after cut flower varieties, I’d say a subscription is excellent value for money, and would be particularly welcomed by a recipient who really knows and loves flowers.
When setting up a subscription it sets up a recurring payment, and it wasn’t immediately clear how long this is set it up for. However in the FAQ section of the website it clearly explains that you can cancel a subscription up to seven days before a delivery. Reviewed by Veronica Peerless

FlowerBe
Best posies
Price: From £50 for three months | Rate: Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6 or 12 months
If you want to enjoy fresh flowers without paying the large price tag associated with many subscription services, FlowerBe could be a good option. The small business sends out mini posies at £18.20 per monthly delivery and posts them through your letterbox. You can choose a three, six or 12-month subscription of ‘natural’ or ‘colourful’ posies starting at £50 for three months. You’ll also receive an A6, hand-illustrated card with instructions and advice on arranging and caring for your flowers.
I first received the Spring Fresh Flower Posy with Ceramic Striped Vase (£35, pictured) – a cute striped vase that I’ll use over and over again, plus dianthus, limonium, mini chrysanthemums, statice, and pistache foliage in an A6 box. The flowers looked a little lacklustre when I opened the box as they had travelled with no water, but perked up once I'd snipped the ends of the stems and plunged them into the vase. The second posy, the Original Botanical Letterbox Posy (£15) arrived a few weeks later (and looked pretty similar to the original one, which was still looking good - the company promises that its posies look good in the vase for two to three weeks), so I added them to the original arrangement.
The flowers are small and subtle, and could have benefited from a few more colourful flowers, but several weeks on, many of them, including the statice and limonium flowers and the pistache foliage, have dried in situ, so they’ve temporarily become an everlasting arrangement. Reviewed by Veronica Peerless
Pros: Good for a limited budget, long-lasting flowers
Cons: Each posy looks quite similar to the last; rather subtle

Petalon
Best for seasonal blooms
Price: From £30 | Rate: Weekly or monthly | Subscription Length: By seasons or ongoing
Pros: eco-conscious, colourful mix, lots of variety, beautifully packaged, B-corp certified, carbon neutral, grown in Cornwall, pay per delivery
Cons: did not last as long as I would have liked, arranged to be viewed from one angle
When our Farm Bouquet Subscription bouquet arrived from Petalon I was pretty blown away by it. It was beautifully packaged in a sturdy box with a compostable bag and hessian around the base. The flowers were all gorgeous bright autumnal colours, including dahlias, tagetes and rudbekias. I loved the mix of foliage and flowers and it looked great in the vase.
It was recommended that the string be kept on to keep this bouquet as it was, but it seemed to be designed to be viewed from one side and as I wanted it to be on my kitchen table I took the string away and moved a few things around for it to look nicer from all sides.
The only downside of this bouquet for me was longevity. I used the plant food and changed the water regularly, but the best of the blooms only really lasted three days, with some pushing through and looking nice for four or five. Reviewed by Molly Blair

Serenata Flowers
Best welcome gift
Price: From £29.99 | Rate: Weekly, fortnightly or monthly | Subscription Length: Flexible
Pros: flowers lasted well, well packaged, pay per delivery
Cons: only a couple of flower varieties in the mix, unclear from the website where the flowers are grown
The bouquet arrived really quickly after ordering which was great - the flowers weren’t personally to my taste and I found the arrangement a little twee. That being said, all of the stems looked healthy and I couldn’t see any obvious problems with the bouquet. It fit nicely into one of my vases and needed no re-arranging.
The bouquet came well packaged with minimal plastic, which was nice.
The Serenata flowers also lasted really well with no signs of looking sad after about five days. After that I had to do a little editing and remove some spent stems here and there, particularly of the roses, a few of which went brown. However, generally the bouquet lasted well and would be a popular style with a lot of people. Reviewed by Molly Blair

Real Flower Company
Best luxury option
Price: From £222 for three months | Rate: Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6 or 12 months
Pros: fantastic scent and longevity, great selection of flowers
Cons: more expensive than others, have to pay full cost upfront
The first thing I noticed when I opened the tall olive-green ‘hat’ box (complete with a large satin ribbon) from the Real Flower Company was the scent that immediately burst out of it. We’ve become accustomed to plunging our noses into a bunch of cut flowers only to find that there is no scent at all, but this bouquet, packed with over 20 pale pink, apricot and white roses, smelled simply heavenly. It immediately brought on a wave of childhood nostalgia – the modern roses growing in my garden smell nothing like this.
Founded in 1999 by Rosebie Morton, The Real Flower Company specialises in ‘scented flowers with character’. In season, its roses are grown on a flower farm in Hampshire. Out of season, they come from a carbon neutral and Fairtrade flower farm, Tambuzi Roses, in Kenya, and are a carbon negative business. In October, my beautifully hand tied bouquet was supplemented with aromatic herbs, ivy flowers and winter foliage and berries. It looked at its peak for well over a week in a vase, and with a bit of editing, carried on for almost two weeks.
If you want to give someone a truly beautiful and luxury treat, you can’t go wrong with a bouquet subscription from The Real Flower Company. They will send the first bouquet on a date of your choice with a letter telling the recipient about the gift, with a schedule of planned delivery dates (that can by altered by the recipient). Three monthly deliveries cost from £222; six monthly deliveries from £372. Reviewed by Veronica Peerless

Prestige Flowers
Best quick and simple option
Price: From £20 with no contract; From £64.99 (£21.66 per delivery, with pre-paid contract) | Rate: Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6 or 12 months
Pros: well packaged and easy to unwrap, subscription option with cancel anytime, pre-paid and ongoing payment options
Cons: confusing sustainability info in the leaflets
The flowers from Prestige were delivered in a rigid cardboard box which protected them really well. They were left in the box for several hours, but they still looked fresh when unboxed. The flowers were very vibrant, and all looked healthy, with some lush foliage included to give the arrangement more impact. There were several varieties of flowers in the bouquet, including bright orange lilies – the colours wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste so this may not be the best choice if you’re picky about colour schemes as we couldn’t see a way to specify this.
The stems were wrapped in a moist cloth and then in cellophane to keep them from drying out. The bouquet also came with a sachet of plant food and very clear instructions on how to trim the stems and keep them looking healthy for a long time.
The vase life was really good on this bouquet, and they lasted at least a week and a half before needing a few alterations. The first to go were the lilies to avoid falling pollen staining anything. The leaflets that came with the flowers were useful, but they also had some fairly watery sustainability claims on them which we were wary of. Under sustainability it said ‘we source the most beautiful flowers from all corners of the globe,’ which feels pretty counterintuitive.
We were impressed by the options on Prestige – as you could go for a Seasonal Subscription, a Luxury Subscription or a Letterbox Subscription, which gives plenty of choice for different needs. Reviewed by Molly Blair

Flying Flowers
Best for long-lasting blooms
Price: From £26.66 | Rate: Monthly | Subscription Length: 3, 6 or 12 months
Pros: strong eco credentials, helpful care tips, long-lasting blooms, sustainable packaging.
Cons: Not 100 per cent British-grown blooms (60 per cent minimum in subscription), have to pay full cost upfront
Forty years of trading as a flower company is certainly nothing to sniff at. Flying Flower’s journey began that number of years ago in Jersey, where people started sending carnations back home. Fast forward to today and Flying Flowers is considerably bigger yet still attempting to maintain its cheerful, friendly, person-focused ethos. Pushing a strong customer service and sustainable credentials, Flying Flowers is certainly a good option for flower subscriptions for anyone who likes their flowers with helpful, clear information delivered in a down-to-earth and accessible way.
The company prioritises British blooms, and British grown stems are available all year round. The subscription bunches have a minimum of 60 per cent locally grown flowers. But Flying Flowers do sell a bunch of 100 per cent British stems and foliage (not as part of the subscription). The company also has a campaign to educate teachers about wild bees and pollination, which means their sustainability credentials have a long reach.
The bunch I had was the blooms of the month, which featured beautiful pink peonies, white roses, statis and delphiniums. It had a lovely jaunty, pinky-purple hue and was exceptionally cheerful. The packaging was compact and recyclable, and features leaflets and instructions on how to care for your flowers, and encourage them to open, which was really helpful and clear. I followed them to the letter and my bunch stayed fresh for almost two weeks. Reviewed by Daisy Bowie-Sell
