The new season launches on Tuesday 30 April with a special guest for its first episode: veteran gardener, broadcaster and author Alan Titchmarsh, who will be talking to podcast host and Gardens Illustrated editor Stephanie Mahon about his dream garden. Follow the podcast now to get the episode lined up in your feed and find out what he really, actually thinks about rewilding, which garden designer he would want to create his fantasy space, why his trousers are famous in North Korea and where he saw the ultimate summer house.
Episodes of season three of Talking Gardens will drop weekly (usually on a Tuesday) for nine weeks, with guests including community gardener and activist Tayshan Hayden-Smith; designers Ann-Marie Powell and Andy Sturgeon; Katy Merrington, cultural gardener at The Hepworth Wakefield gallery garden in Yorkshire; planting designer Nigel Dunnett; TV presenter Kate Humble; and Jimi Blake, owner of Hunting Brook Garden in Ireland, plus designer Miria Harris - whose episode includes a preview of her Chelsea Flower Show garden and drops as a special Chelsea edition on Sunday 19 May, just before the show begins.
Each episode is a conversation between Stephanie and her guest, who is asked to choose the places and plants that they would most like to have in their fantasy garden. Who would they have as their imaginary head gardener? What are the little garden pleasures they couldn’t live without and what's the one thing they would never allow in the garden gate? There is also plenty of chat about plants and gardens, as well as what’s going on in the horticulture industry, and the nation's backyards.
This season, listen in to discover who would want a napping tree and a cup of tea that never goes cold; who Ann-Marie has been Insta-stalking; why Andy would need an entire multiverse to create his dream garden; and how Jimi dodges bears while botanising. Find out where Nigel had a supernatural experience and what led Tayshan to leave football and start gardening.
